Google maps is not merely the guarentee for a smoothly oriented tourist holiday, but also a preemptive strike against all the flaws and perils of an unpredictable journey, the mooching stranger, the muscle ache, the horrendous taxi bill. Its straightforward connection between A and B is the most obvious example of technologies’ safeguarding design approach keeping us caught in the close
neighbourhoods of ourselves.

Concomitant with arts reckless outlook for the unknown, the sequence of 12 artist videos follows another approach to traveling - a cartography beyond the map, a search for another world to walk through. Composing a chaotic, multi-layered journey, the videos presented try to re-route roads and paths and re-insert fantastic creatures back onto the landscape. Don’t get to far out. And, watch your step!

this monday july 20th at synchronicity space (4306 melrose ave in LA CA 90029) lucky dragons plays a show with PIT ER PAT, rad friends from chicago now living in LA, as well as eli keszler and ashley paul, new friends from providence RI. the show is all ages and entry is by donation, so helps us raise some money for touring bands, but don’t sweat it if you are poor yourself. everything starts around 9 pm and ends around midnight!

dublab has a project called “vision version” where they pair filmmakers and musicians up to make these live-documents… this video is from a show we played with cluster at farmlab in downtown LA… shot and edited by matt amato… what a gift!!

at “this is not art” in newcastle, australia we led a workshop on playing games, acting out rituals, talking about online gaming, alternate worlds, corporate sponsorship, economics, situationists… all in the interest of figuring out how we use “playing” to solve problems, make things, and get to know eachother and our world a little better. the game we’re playing here i learned from marijke from eats tapes!
